Victor Landin
Sr.
Nov 29, 1938 — Aug 10, 2020
Victor Landin, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020, at Main Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Victor is survived by the mother of his children, Mary Lopez; his children Steve, Dan, Victor Jr., Debbie, Helena, Lori, and John; his brothers and sisters Charlie, Dora Alicia, Juan, Armando, Gloria, and Lucy; his 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Victor is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Paula; his siblings Manuela, Maria Guadalupe, and Israel; and his son Tony Ray.
Victor was born on November 29th, 1938, in Martindale, Texas. He was the third of 10 children born to Carlos and Paula Landin. His parents were migrant workers and moved their family to Lorenzo, Texas, when Victor was 18 years old. He called Lorenzo home for nearly 60 years.
Victor married Mary Lopez on August 24, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas.
Victor and Mary had eight children together. In order to provide for his family, Victor worked various jobs including farming and ranching, working at the Lorenzo textile mill and the cotton mill in Lubbock, and for Crosby County Fuel in Lorenzo. He enjoyed working even in his later years and did yard work and various odd jobs such as delivering the local paper. He loved helping people and would often mow yards for free for those who weren't able to themselves.
Victor was a devoted father. He spent much of his time teaching his children life skills that still serve them well today. He was their coach for many sports, including his favorite--baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his children at every opportunity. He taught them the meaning of hard work, and all of them worked from the time they were young. Victor was also a devoted grandfather. He loved all of his grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending their many sporting events. He loved family gatherings when he could be with all of his children and grandchildren together, and he made sure he brought his dominoes.
Victor was an outstanding problem-solver and passed that skill on to his children. He was a prominent member of the Lorenzo community. He served San Lorenzo Catholic Church as treasurer for a number of years and also served as President of the Parish Council for a time. While his children were in school, he served on the Lorenzo ISD school board for 9 years and advocated not only for his children but for all Lorenzo students. He liked sports and rooted for anything that Texas Tech, his children, or grandchildren were involved in. He absolutely loved cowboy western movies. At his core, Victor was a cowboy. He took great pride in having owned and broken several horses throughout his life. As often as he could, he would return home to Martindale, Texas, where he grew up, always stopping in Lockhart for some famous sausage. He had a great sense of humor. He was well known for his jokes and always seemed to have a new one to tell. He enjoyed making people laugh and looked forward to brightening the days of others with a laugh and a smile. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and by all who knew him.
