Silas Ray
Flournoy
Sep 11, 1935 — Feb 21, 2023
Crosbyton
Silas Ray Flournoy was welcomed into his heavenly home on February 21, 2023. Silas was born on September 11, 1936 to Henry and Clellia Flournoy and spent most of his childhood in Fluvanna, Texas. Silas lived on the farm and learned the value of hard work and had the privilege of growing up in a small tight knit community. Silas graduated from Fluvanna High School and then attended Howard County Junior College in Big Spring. It was here that Silas met the love of his life, Frances Walker. Silas and Frances were married on November 29, 1957 and were blessed to be married for 65 years. Silas went on to Texas Tech University to complete his degree and to become a Soil Conservationist for the USDA. He was the District Conservationist at Crosbyton for 25 years. He also worked at Plainview and Dell City. Farming was always in his blood, and he continued to help on the family farm for the remainder of his life. Silas and Frances had two children, Stacy and Stephen. Silas loved his family unconditionally. Silas was a great Christian man and honored God in all that he did. He was involved in many activities in Crosbyton. He was the Lion's Club President, Athletic Booster Club President, and was on the Board of the White River Municipal Water District for 6 years. He created nature trails for White River Youth Camp and Rio Blanco Girl Scout Camp. Silas was named Citizen Through the Years in Crosbyton in 2016. He loved many things: camping in his trailer, going to the mountains and riding on the jeep trails, photography, and he was an avid Red Raider fan. He loved taking his family on camping vacations. Silas had a great sense of humor and was never above pulling a good prank. But Silas's favorite activities involved church and his family. He coached his children in Little Dribblers and Softball teams and helped with Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts. Silas helped take the scouts on many trips and helped shape many young lives.
Silas is survived by his wife, Frances; his two children, Stacy (Tom) Mann of Wolfforth and Stephen Flournoy of Fort Worth; four grandchildren: Justin Parrish, Emily (Kevin) Guerra of Lubbock, Destiny (Robert) English of Merritt Island, Florida, and Mandy (Kristin) Neff of Carrollton; three great-grandchildren- Adysen English, Adyson English and Josiah Neffone. He is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Nell Truxal of Georgetown; three brothers-in-law, Paul Baker of Burke, VA, Owen Walker of Nevada, Max Coffee of Big Springs; and a number of treasured nieces and nephews.
