Obituary

Saturnino S. Mata was born November 29, 1933 in La Salle County, TX to Dolores and Juanita Santoya Mata. He passed from this life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

He proudly served his country in the US Army. He married Sara Fonseca on December 9, 1956 in Dilley, TX, whom he loved dearly every day of his life. He was a God fearing man and loved Jesus with all his heart.  Saturnino was a retired farmer. He was a very giving person, and never met a stranger. Those who knew him were deeply impacted by the man he was.  He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and was always so proud of his tomato plants. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to laugh. He will be missed dearly by all those that loved him and knew him.

Saturnino is survived by three sons, Noe Mata and wife Sandy of Little Elm, TX, Moises Mata of Ralls, TX and Mark Mata and wife Claudia of Petersburg, TX; two daughters, Nora Salazar of Petersburg and Noemi Galaviz of Amarillo; two brothers, Silvas Mata and Martin Mata both of Lubbock; one sister, Fidela Elizondo of New Braunfels, TX; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two on the way. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sara Mata; his parents Dolores and Juanita Santoya Mata; brothers Genaro Sr., Toribio, Regino Sr.; sisters Tomasa, Petra García; and twin great grandsons Jozieth and Jaziah.
