Santiago "Jim" Hernandez was born August 12, 1921 in Candelaria, Texas to Justina Barragan.  He was raised in San Antonio Del Bravo, Mexico by his mother and siblings, Damas, Eutemio, Nicolas and Antonio.  His surviving brother, Nicolas Lopez lives in Indio, California.

In 1947 he married the love of his life, Victoria Madrid.  They had two children Evangelina "Angie" and Alonzo.  In 1954 they moved to Canyon Valley, later moving and settling in the Ralls, Texas area.  He was a Rancher and a Farmer.  He loved to work with horses and cattle.  He would train horses and make them dance; one of his fondest memories is getting to meet Gene Autry.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ralls, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, son Alonzo and granddaughter Shirley.

Survivors include his daughter, Angie Cervantes; 9 grandchildren Eddie (Dora) Rivera, Melissa "Missy" (Jesse) Hernandez, Stephen (Lachon) Rivera, Jesus Gonzales, Erik Lance Hernandez, JD Hernandez, John Michael Hernandez, Erik (Monika) Hernandez and Rosanna Hernandez.  Survivors also include 11 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 5, 2018 at  St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the same church.

Pall Bearers will be the staff from The Ralls Rehab Ranch.
