Sandra
Hash
Jan 25, 1970 — Jan 25, 2023
Brownfield
It is with profound sorrow that the family and friends of Sandra Michelle Hash announce her sudden passing. Ms. Hash of Brownfield, formerly of Lubbock, left this world on Wednesday January 25, 2023, on her 53rd birthday.
Sandra was born on January 25, 1970, to Mr. Frank Hash and Mrs. Wanda Lee Holley Hash near White River. Sandra spent her childhood in Lubbock. She graduated from Coronado High School (CHS) in 1988, and while there excelled in math and was a proud member of the orchestra as a cello player.
After high school Sandra's love and aptitude for math continued. She worked as a bookkeeper while pursuing a degree in accounting at Texas Tech University (TTU). During this time Sandra enjoyed playing pool, spending time with friends, and driving her red Ford Mustang.
While studying at TTU, Sandra's life forever changed. In 1999 Sandra experienced stroke-like symptoms that would impact her for the rest of her life. She developed severe aphasia, a language accessing disorder, among other disabilities. Eventually, Sandra would be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Starting at the young age of 29, Sandra would spend the next 24 years in long term care facilities. She was often the youngest resident in the many places she'd call home. Yet, Sandra always kept her mischievous smile and bombast joyful laughter that could fill a room. Appropriately, her favorite flower was the sunflower.
Around the year 2000, Sandra joined a local multiple sclerosis support group known as U.L.T.R.A. There she met many life-long friends, and being a MS veteran, she provided guidance, support, and hope to many who were newly diagnosed.
In 2013 Sandra became a member of the StAR (Stroke and Aphasia Recovery) program, made available through Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Department of Speech and Language Pathology. There she met many more friends who would become more like family.
Sandra accepted her Lord in baptism on January 29, 2017. It was the most important decision she ever made.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Wanda Hash and a stepmother, Lela Hash. Sandra is survived by her sister, Misty D. Hayes of Lubbock, and her niece Jacklyn (Jackie) Hayes of Florida and a stepbrother, Casey Devi. She is also loved and missed terribly by far more friends than can be listed here. Sandra exemplified that although illness or disease can rob a body of various functions and impart many challenges, it cannot rob a grateful heart of joy.
