Sammie Bownds 92, of Ralls passed away Wednesday January 25, 2017 at the Lubbock Heart Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born May 10, 1924 in Ralls Texas to Lester T. and Inda Poteet Bownds. He married Billie Smith on February 21, 1947 in Ralls Texas. Sammie farmed and ranched for many years in the Ralls area, while he also worked for the City of Ralls and Crosby County Fuel. He was a member of the Emma Lodge 931, where he received his 60 year certificate. He served in the U.S. Army during WW11.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, Sammy Joe Bownds and Ray Gene Bownds, a brother Lester (Blackie) Bownds, a sister Peggy Campbell.
Sammie is survived by two sons; Lester and wife Paula Bownds of Lorenzo, Kenneth and wife Rhonda Bownds of Lubbock, two sisters; Myra Timmons of Lubbock Texas, Pat Bates of Granbury Texas, two daughter in-laws; Peggy Bownds of Plainview, and Pam Bownds of Hemphill, and a brother-in-law Delton Campbell of Idalou and a sister-in-law Billie Jo Bownds of Lorenzo. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Samantha Hunt, Andy Bownds, Karlinda Buckin, Amy McNamara, Brandon Bownds, Candance Beacom, Bobby Bownds and Connie Shelton. Sammie also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ralls. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. A visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church of Ralls, Texas 79357.
