Obituary

Ronnie Ragland 84, of Ralls passed away and joined his heavenly father on October 12, 2025 following complications from a severe auto accident. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the Ralls Methodist Church in Ralls. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
Ronnie was born February 5, 1941 in Roaring Springs, Texas. He graduated from Patton Springs, High School in 1959 and married the love of his life, Kathleen Boyd on December 27, 1961 in Crosbyton. They were married for 57 years.
Ronnie was a farmer and rancher his entire life and primarily grew cotton and wheat on his 1,200-acre farm south of Ralls in the Owens Community in Crosby County. On occasion, when hailstorms prevailed, he also grew sorghum, and a single year of sunflowers, of which he disliked and never grew again. He loved raising cotton and his most favorite time of the year was during harvest season.
Of course, Hereford cattle were always a part of his life. He exhibited cattle as a youngster and passed on the tradition to his kids and grandkids. He always said, "There wasn't anything prettier than a newborn baby Hereford calf."
He also had a passion for good horses, particularly rope horses. He also enjoyed the challenge of buying a good-looking, young horse and training it himself in hopes of making  an outstanding calf or team roping horse.
He was a great 4-H Leader and received several awards. In 1998, Ronnie was awarded the Hall of Honor Award. In 2007, he received the State Extension Leaders of Legacy Award and in 2017, he received the Crosby County Adult Leader Award. He also served over 25 years as a board member for the Owens Coop Gin.
He was a devoted, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He deeply missed Kathleen after her passing in 2019. He enjoyed spending time on his farm and being surrounded by family and friends. He served his community as a longstanding member of the First United Methodist Church of Ralls. Most recently, he had become a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. His single most favorite hobby was just simply spending time and traveling to the many events and activities supporting his children and grandchildren.
His wife Kathleen, a daughter, Delinda; a sister, Wanda Taggart; and parents, Frank and Clara Ragland preceded him in death.

Those who will continue to cherish his memories are son Dr. J. D. Ragland and wife, Angela, of Canyon; daughter, Shannon Davis of Idalou; sister Sharon Smith of  Tahoka; three grandchildren, Brady and wife Carlie Shea Ragland of Amarillo, Cutter Davis of Ralls, and Skylar Davis and fiancé Nik Hodges of Lubbock. He is also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ryla-James of Amarillo and great-grandson Nash Hodges of  Lubbock coming in December.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the doctors' nurses and staff of UMC Hospital and South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital and Donna Owen for their heart felt care of Ronnie.

The family also request memorial contributions to the Ralls Methodist Church of Ralls (P.O. Box 447, Ralls, Texas 79357), or Ralls Livestock Sales Fund (1102 CR 135, Ralls, Texas 79357).
