Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Kautz was born to Richard and Valentina Kautz on July 30, 1960. He passed away on the morning of July 1st, 2026, at the age of 65, in Lubbock, Texas with his beloved wife, Yolanda, by his side. Bobby grew up in Dickens County and graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1980.
On July 16, 1983, he married the love of his life, Yolanda Kautz. Together, they exemplified long-term commitment in marriage, celebrating 43 wonderful years together. Their romantic story was one to remember, marked by Bobby dedicating songs to her, dancing in the headlights of their pickup and spending almost all their time together. Bobby was a hardworking and dedicated husband who took immense pride in providing for his family. Together, he and Yolanda raised two sons, Eric Kautz (Robbin) of San Angelo, Texas, and Keyan Kautz of Dickens, Texas.
Bobby was someone others looked up to for guidance and support. Known for his matter-of-fact approach, he always spoke his mind, and people loved him for his honesty and straightforwardness. His unique nicknames for friends and family will live on, reminding everyone of his warmth and humor. He dedicated his life to serving his community through his volunteerism, notably as a firefighter with the Dickens Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Dickens fire chief for 16 years, and as a storm chaser, embodying the spirit of selflessness and courage. Additionally, Bobby served on the board of education for Patton Springs Schools, demonstrating his commitment to the education and well-being of the youth in his community. Bobby also served on the EMS for 10 years.
Bobby worked for the City of Dickens for 16 years and for 19 years with TxDOT. He then continued his dedication to public service by working for Dickens County until his passing, almost serving 9 years as motor grader operator.
Bobby was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Chloe, Bailee, Hayden, and Gunnar, who brought him endless joy and pride. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored and respected him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Kautz Sr., his brothers, Richard Kautz Jr. and Danny Kautz, and his sister, Dahlia Kautz. He leaves behind his mother, Valentina Kautz of Dickens, his sisters Sylvia Herrington (Don) of Christoval and Maria (James) Baker of Dickens, and his brothers Ben (Cynthia) Kautz of Dickens and Sammy (Stephanie) Kautz of Spur.
Bobby's infectious laughter and kind heart touched the lives of everyone around him, and he will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the community. He loved driving the backroads with his sons and his wife, Yolanda, creating cherished memories along the way.
A celebration of Bobby's life will be held on a date to be announced at the Dickens County Senior Citizens Center. All are welcome to join us in remembering a truly remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dickens DoGooders, an organization founded and created by his wife for their community, as well as to the Dickens Volunteer Fire Department; both causes that were very close to Bobby's heart.
