Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at Adams Funeral Home
on Saturday, March 4th at 2:00 pm. 520 Watts, Ralls Texas. No
internment services will be conducted.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 6:00 -8:00 pm at Adams Funeral

Rita Gayle Bumpus Poteet, 84, of Idalou Texas passed away peacefully
at home on February 27, 2023 surrounded by family.
Rita was born on January 22, 1939, to Whit and Myrtle "Cummings"
Bumpus in Spur Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in
1957 and earned a Bachelor of Science from Abilene Christian College
in 1961. She married Don Poteet, whom she'd known from high school,
on August 22, 1965.
Rita has lived in several states including, Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska.
In those states she stayed busy as a homemaker, substitute teacher,
secretary, and salesperson. Rita worked at Texas Tech in the office of
the Dean of Students, where she retired as the Executive Administrative
Assistant in 2009 and eventually moved to Idalou in 2021.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Joe Bumpus.
Rita is survived by three daughters, Katherine Shelton and her husband
Jim of Denton, Charlotte Poteet of Lubbock, and Cynthia Brunner and
her husband Ed of Idalou. She is also survived by her former husband,
Don Poteet of Post; two granddaughters, Samantha Brunner, Allisen
Brunner and one great-grandson, Michael Brunner, as well as several
nieces and nephews and so many dear friends.
