Obituary

Mona Laverne Marsh Roberts was born on July 17, 1938, to Woodrow Wilson "Jack" Marsh and Margery Virginia Williams Marsh in Ralls, Texas. She grew up in Crosbyton, Texas, where her family operated a custom farming business. She graduated from Crosbyton High School in May 1956 and went on to attend business college, becoming a skilled bookkeeper. Laverne worked at several businesses throughout the area, including the Cotton Office in Ralls, First Baptist Church Crosbyton, and AB May Motor Company. It was there that she met Lon Melvin Roberts, who would become the love of her life. Laverne and Lon were married on August 12, 1961, and their marriage endured with love and partnership until Lon's passing on March 20, 2015. Together, they were pillars in both the Crosbyton and Ralls communities. They owned and operated a mechanic shop in Crosbyton, later relocating to the triangle across from the swimming pool before ultimately purchasing the old Ford Dealership building in Ralls. Laverne and Lon were active in community service. In Crosbyton, they supported the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Lions Club. After moving to Ralls, they continued their service through the Boy Scouts and Lions Club.

A dedicated Band Booster, Laverne supported her daughters, grandchildren, and countless other young musicians throughout the years—even long after her own family had graduated. In recent years, she found joy in attending car shows, where she enjoyed sharing stories, making friends, and showcasing the family's work. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Laverne was known for her resilience, kindness, and love of family and community. She inspired many with her strength and determination to never give up.

She was preceded in death by, her parents, her husband, Lon Roberts, her brother, Clayburn Marsh and his wife, Priscilla and her niece, Marcilla.

She is survived by her daughters; Mona Roberts, Michele Cook, and Melinda Roberts, her grandchildren: Natyra (Caleb) Roberts, Nicholas (Heaven) Cook, her great-grandchildren: Carter and Carson Roberts, and Calliope Cook, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Laverne's life was a testament to faith, service, love, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
