Marcos Antonio Mayorga 65 of Lorenzo passed away July 22, 2023. Marcos was born March 24, 1958 at Mercy Hospital in Slaton, Texas, to Pedro and Benarda Salas Mayorga, he graduated High School in 1976, was a very active member of the Spanish Club, and was the president, he was a member of the Debate Team, and Honor Society. Marcos graduated West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas in 1980, where he majored in Mass Communications and minored in Journalism. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. Marcos was a lifelong parish member of San Lorenzo Catholic Church, where he highly participated in the CYO,CCE teacher, Youth Minister, Sagrado Corazon, Parish Council, President of the Men's Society, member of the Knights of Columbus, a Cursillista, A.C.T.S. Brother, he also produced and directed the "Passion" play. Marcos had two passions in life, his Faith and his Music. In his faith throughout his life, he participated in Catholic Searches, retreats, Bible studies, conferences, prayer services, Theology classes, his spiritual life was always important. His music he lived everyday of his life. He found a connection with music and God and never stopped loving both. Marcos was a member and lead singer of a local band he and his friends put together called the Mextones. As the band moved forward the band name changed to The Funatics. Marcos had a heart for so many things, he loved nature and tending to his garden and plnts. He loved caring for his fellowman, always lending a helping hand, offering an encouraging word or praise. Marcos was a good and loyal friend, a faithful parishioner, a wonderful son, and caring brother. He loved his family very much!!! You will be greatly missed, brother. His final words, Bueno Pues, Rock-N-Roll.
Marcos is preceded in death parents, two brothers; Andres and Modesto Mayorga, a sister, Cecilia Velasquez, a sister in-law, Lupe Mayorga, nephews, Jonathan Edward Mayorga and Jose Mayorga.
Those left to cherish his memory are brothers; Daniel Mayorga of Brownsville, Estanislao "Dino" Mayorga of Lorenzo, and Eduardo Mayorga of Lubbock, sisters Maria Reid and husband Don of Lubbock, Guadalupe Mayorga of Houston, sister-in-law Stella Mayorga, a total of twelve nieces and nine nephews who loved their Uncle Marcus very much.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2023 at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the same church.
