Obituary

Leland Zane Stovall, 86, of Big Spring and formerly of Idalou, passed away July 28, 2020.  Zane was born on September 6, 1933 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Leland Vane and Pauline Marie (Shirey) Stovall. He grew up in the west Texas area and called it "God's country."  Zane married his high school sweetheart, Clara Yuvonne Griffith (known as Bunny) on June 14, 1953 in Idalou, Texas and was drafted as a newlywed into the Army.  His boot camp was at Ft. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma and he was stationed in Germany. Zane was a Seventh Army Artillery Surveyor,  computing target sites. He translated this trade into road, highway and property surveying becoming a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Texas and remained in that profession until his retirement from Lone Star Gas in 1997.
Bunny and Zane raised their two children, Sabrina and Shawn in Mesquite, Texas.  They traveled in Europe while he was in the military but their favorite type of vacation was camping in the western U.S.  Bunny passed away in 1998 and Zane moved back to the land that he loved, Idalou.   In 2001, he married Vonda Mae Gregory and they resided in Idalou, Texas until her passing in 2016.  They enjoyed showing their vintage car, a four-door '57 Chevy with the Nifty Fifties group for several years.
Zane was preceded in death by his father Leland, his mother Pauline, his Aunt Ruby Floyd, Uncle Clyde Floyd and cousin (brother) Bill Floyd.
He is survived by his sister, Patsy Scoman, her husband Stan, daughter Sabrina Karges, her husband Tom Karges, their daughter Natasha, son Travis Linn and his wife Becky; Son, Shawn Stovall and wife, Jan, their two children, Jamie and her husband Mike Moore, son Jon and wife Sarah, and six great grandchildren.
