Larry McCurdy, born January 14, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas peacefully passed away among family as he slept the evening of December 10, 2018
Larry, son of Rudolph and Iva (Watson) McCurdy, grew up in the farming community of Mt. Blanco near Floydada, Texas, making lifelong friendships and memories while attending school in Crosbyton, Texas. It was there that he met his bride-to-be Judy Brixey through his friendship with her oldest brother, Kenneth.
Larry and Judy married November 19, 1965 and spent their first six years of marriage in the Mt. Blanco community, farming with his dad while also serving in the Army Reserves.
Larry and his young family moved to Lubbock in 1972, where he began his 26 years of service as a home delivery milkman for Borden Milk. He loved interacting with everyone on his routes in the Lubbock and surrounding communities, becoming very close to many families as he watched them grow through the years. He also enjoyed lending a helpful hand to customers in need of a little extra help, changing lightbulbs and taking care of other small chores along the way. It was a joy for him to have children jump into his milk truck to ask for ice cream and treats, and to be spotted by them years later in their adulthood and hear their proud exclamation "You were my milkman!"
In semi-retirement, Larry went on to build more new friendships while working at the Lubbock Avalanche Journal for 6 years.
Known for his wit, humor, big personality, and love of the outdoors, Larry enjoyed his retirement spending time with family, gardening and landscaping with his wife, enjoying home handiwork & car maintenance, and catching up and cutting up with dear friends and family online. Larry fought a brave and stoic fight against metastatic lung cancer.
Larry is survived by his wife Judy (Brixey) McCurdy and their three children Russell McCurdy of Lubbock, Cindy Harper, her husband Jeffrey, and their son Jackson of Lubbock, Cody McCurdy and his fiancé Thai Hien of Houston, and his brother Phillip McCurdy of Marble Falls, Texas.
Larry is preceded in death by his devoted parents Iva and Rudolph McCurdy of Mt. Blanco, Texas.
Graveside service will be held at Crosbyton Cemetery at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 16, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton, Texas.
