John Castillo, 72, of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He was born October 20, 1953 in Weslaco, TX to Mauro and Ignacia Valdez Castillo.

John was a painter and remodeled houses for a living. He married Rosa Villanueva on June 10, 2012 in Lubbock. John enjoyed music, dancing, and cookouts. He especially liked making his famous tamales and sharing them with family and friends. He was a huge Houston Texans fan.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa; five daughters, Janie Contreras, Emma Trevino, Dilly Caldera, Mechelle Wilson and Monica Wright; six brothers, Mario Castillo, Mauro Castillo, Jr., Javier Castillo, Roy Castillo, Noel Castillo and Joel Castillo; four sisters, Ignacia Arias, Hilda Cervantes, Irma Vega and Caroline Castillo; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents.
