John Roy Bryson, 74, of Lubbock passed away on November 9, 2022. He was born February 3, 1948 in Lincoln, NE to Emil and Jeanne Robinett Bryson. He married the love of his life, Joann Jolley in September of 1994 in Lubbock, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2014.
After high school, John proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He then attended Texas Tech University where he earned his bachelor's degree in December of 1975. After 25+ years of service he retired from the Texas Forest Service. After his retirement he served as a recovery advocate at The Ranch at Dove Tree where he was a great mentor to many.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling to Montana. He was a jack of all trades and was a very talented and artistic person. He enjoyed drawing and building things, but his biggest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones.
He is survived by two daughters, Tracy Riley and husband Derek of White River Lake, and Cari Ballou and husband Jason of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren, Oliver Ballou, Dylan Riley, Grace Riley, Tyrel Tyson and John Tyson; and numerous great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one stepson, Cowboy Tyson and wife Tammy; one grandson, Robert Lee Tyson; and one brother, William Bryson.
A memorial service will be held 2pm, Sunday, November 13, 2022 at the New Deal United Methodist Church.
