Joe David Dunlap, 65, passed away at his home on June 20, 2015 after a lengthy illness. He was born January 24, 1950 in Lubbock, Texas to Claudia (Boatright) Dunlap and Marion Dunlap. While attending Lubbock High School, Joe was active in theater. He was one of only twenty-six students selected statewide to attend a University of Texas six-week summer course taught by Dan (Hoss Cartwright) Blocker. Joe was even offered a drama scholarship at the University of Texas, but unfortunately was unable to accept. Joe led the Toys for Tots motorcycle ride and was Harley Claus at WWHD every Christmas season for many years.
He is survived by his wife Dianna Hill Dunlap of Lubbock; four daughters; Melissa Shivers and husband Russell of Waxachie; Michelle Dunlap of Houston; Cassie Arguello and husband Paul of Lubbock; and Shami Aiwase of Houston; two sons; Jason Herrera of Houston; and Ryan Hill of Lubbock; two brothers; Jack Dunlap and wife Virginia of Lubbock; and Kenneth Dunlap of Cadott, WI; two sisters; Frances McClure of Oxford, OH; Pauline Adams of Houston; six grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and his precious dog Gizmo.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 pm Tuesday, June 23, at Canyon United Methodist Church ( 9401 E. FM 40/ intersection of FM 40 and 1729) in Lubbock. Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 24, at Canyon United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens in Lubbock under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
