Joanie Karol Ellison of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully 4/20/26. Born on June 29, 1957, in Crosbyton, Texas, she lived a life defined by dedication, kindness, and service to others. Over the years, she called many communities home, including Crosbyton, Lubbock, Wolfforth, Santa Fe, Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Johnson City, Granite Shoals and finally Fort Worth.

Joanie began her professional journey by earning her beauty license before pursuing higher education at Texas Tech University, where she received her bachelor's degree in Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management. She built a successful career in hospitality and food service, first working in catering for Priscilla Simms and later managing the catering department at Texas Tech. In the early 1990s, she was part owner of Favorites Restaurant, and in the mid-1990s, while living in Johnson City, she was part owner of Tommy's Fried Green Tomatoes. Later, after moving to Texas Hill Country, she managed food service operations on the golf courses at Horseshoe Bay. She eventually returned to Texas Tech, where she devoted more than 25 years of service, concluding her career in the Information Technology Department within the School of Nursing.

Above all, Joanie was a devoted mother. She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Taylor Ellison and Brock Kowalsky. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Ellison, Kris Ellison and Jerry Martin, sister Cheryl Martin, parents Jo Martin and Keith Ellison / Lloyd Martin. And survived by sister Jill Petersen.

Joanie will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love of coffee and the ocean, and her willingness to help any friend in need. Her warmth, strength, and quiet compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
