Jimmy Long

November 18, 1935 – July 29, 2020

Graveside services for Jimmy Duane Long, 84, will be held at the Crosbyton Cemetery on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 3 p.m. under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Jimmy was welcomed to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

Jimmy was born on November 18, 1935 in Crosbyton and married his sweetheart Ireta Long on October 21, 1958.  As a native and lifetime resident of Crosbyton, Texas, Jimmy attended Crosbyton schools, and was self employed owning and managing his own business, Jimmy Long Welding with his longtime friend and partner Charles Frater. Before settling down and building a home in Crosbyton, Jimmy lived with his wife, Ireta in Germany while he was stationed there in the Army from 1959-1960.

If you knew Jimmy, you also knew how much his work meant to him. On any given day, he could be found in his welding shop in Crosbyton, unless he and Charles were working on location. Jimmy's footprint can be found all over Crosby and surrounding counties as he was contracted to build shops, barns and many more structures.  He took pride in his work and demanded the same from those around him.

Jimmy was a great supporter of the community. On Friday nights during football season, you knew to look for him down at the fence line where he would be watching the game; he also supported local organizations including 4H and many stock shows over the years. Jimmy's love for a hot cup of coffee, good food, and conversation would find him at one of the local diners in Crosbyton where his presence will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ireta Mae, his parents William Graden Long Sr. and Vinnie Mae Long, and a brother, Eugene "Gene" Long. Survivors include one brother, William Graden "Junior" Long of Crosbyton, two sons, Doyel Long of Lubbock, and Terry Long of Abilene; one great grandchild, River Martinez, and grandchildren, Tayler Martinez, Hillary Bell, Madison Long, Tracy James Long, Kendra Kruse and Bryden Kruse, as well as a host of extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
