Obituary

Jerlene Marie Holland Morrison, 88, of Lorenzo, passed away on February 18, 2023. She was born April 26, 1934, in Quail, TX, to Odell and Lucille Carter Holland.
Jerlene attended grade school in Lelia Lake and White Deer. She continued her schooling in Groom, Texas, graduating high school there in 1952.
While pursuing a degree at West Texas State College, she became a Kappa Tau Phi sorority member.
In 1957 Jerlene graduated with her degree in elementary education and married the love of her life, Alvin Morrison. They were married on January 24, 1957, in Tucumcari, NM, soon after Alvin played in the Tangerine Bowl football game.
For 29 years, Jerlene worked as a teacher in Lorenzo, TX, primarily teaching 1st grade. During her teaching career, she developed a program for 1st and 2nd graders to continue with the same teacher. Jerlene also helped bring the headstart program to Lorenzo I.S.D.
Throughout her life, Jerlene was an active and generous participant in her community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, FUMC in Lorenzo, First Christian Church on Broadway in Lubbock, and the Red Hat Society.  She was a Girl Scout troop leader as well. Over the years, many of her days were filled with loving and serving others. She volunteered at the Pioneer Memorial Museum, spent time storytelling at local libraries, served on the Lorenzo Senior Citizens Center board, organized fundraisers, spearheaded cookbook publications, visited Ralls Nursing home residents and participated in the Crosby County Fair.  Lorenzo Chamber of Commerce honored her with Woman of the Year.
Jerlene also loved working with her hands and making beautiful things for others; especially for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed floral design, gardening and canning, square dancing and genealogy research with her husband. She loved sewing, quilting, and crocheting the most, making hundreds of blankets and hats later in life.
Jerlene is survived by one son, Darvin Morrison of Austin, TX; one daughter, Kathleen Morris and husband Al of Happy, TX; three sisters, Janet Sue Listen (Jim) of Greeley, CO, Emma Kay Sargent (Don) of Georgetown, TX and Billie Ruth Olson (Marc) of Panhandle, TX; three sisters-in-law, Christine Houser of Willcox, AZ, Joyce Morrison of Nacogdoches, TX and Merle Morrison of Lorenzo; three grandchildren, Krystal O'Mara of Canyon, Ashley Mills of Portland, OR and Riley Morris (Becca) of Midland, TX; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Riley O'Mara, Hadassah Joy Mills, Jude Calvin Mills, Campbell Alvin Morris, and Beckett James Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
