Obituary

On March 14, 2025, Isabel (Chavelo) Lopez Sanchez, 83, was called home to be with the Lord. Throughout his life, he was known as Chavelo, Shorty, Dad, and Grandpa. Chavelo was born on July 8, 1941, in Roseville, Texas to Santos Lopez Quintanilla.  He moved to McAdoo, TX and married Virginia Reyes Sanchez on October 26, 1960. They celebrated almost 62 years of marriage before her passing in September of 2022.

Chavelo became a longtime resident of Crosbyton, TX where he led a life devoted to raising his family through many years of hard work on the farm.  He was a self-taught skillful guitar player.  In his youth he participated in performances, recordings and many random jam sessions with friends.  Later in life he played guitar at Templo Elim, Spanish Assembly of God church. He also had a stellar reputation for being a "gallero".  He had high standards and kept meticulous records on how to breed and condition game foul. He never grew tired of having backyard chickens or giving advice on how to raise them.

He would bring home stray dogs that people would dump out in the country and passed his compassion to his children and grandchildren.  Through planting and harvesting, vegetable gardens and summer jobs he taught his daughters responsibility and work ethic.  His friends who knew him well valued his loyalty and his sense of humor.  He had nicknames for almost everyone he knew.  Someone once said that it did not matter how bad your day was going, just talking with him a few minutes, he would make you laugh.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Diana Munoz and her husband Steve, Grace Munoz and her husband Richard, Rachel Bustamante and her husband Rene, of Crosbyton,TX, Debbie Sanchez of Lubbock, TX and his younger brother, Roy Sanchez of Spur, TX; his grandchildren, Asaneth Barrera and her husband Adrian of Midland, TX; Yvette Bustamante, Amanda Munoz, Alyssa Munoz, Kelly Alvarado and her husband Jason of Lubbock, TX; Jason Munoz of Colorado; and his two great grandchildren Mari and Caleb Barrera of Midland, TX; as well as countless other men and women that considered him a father figure.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Sanchez; his mother Santos Lopez Quintanilla, his brothers Eliborio (Buddy) Sanchez; Martin Lopez, Jesus DeLeon and his sister Rosa Maria Lutzenburger.

A graveside service will be 10 AM, Monday, March 17, 2025 in Crosbyton Cemetery with Rev. Joe Lara Officiating.
