Herbert ( Hop ) Boyd 88 of Lorenzo went to be with the Lord Monday June 12, 2017. Hop was born in Saint Jo, Texas, October 12, 1928, to E.P. and Verda Mae Boyd. The Family moved to Idalou in 1943 while he was a freshman in High School. Herbert married Mary C. Hampton on October 6, 1949, and they started their life together in Idalou, Texas. In 1950, they moved to Lorenzo where he operated a gas station for two years before doing what he loved to do most in life, farming. He farmed for 29 years before becoming an insurance agent for Texas Farm Bureau for many years. In 2013, he was chosen Crosby County Agriculturist of the Year by Texas Farm Bureau. After retiring from Farm Bureau, he was an agent for Boyd Real Estate. Herbert was a great father and loving husband who taught his children how to work hard and be honest in all they did. He loved to tell jokes and always had a smile on his face. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. His parents, three siblings, a grandchild and great-grandchild preceded him in death: EP and Verda Mae Boyd, Mary Margaret Boyd, Bobby Boyd, Norma Sue Hoyle, Ryne Erickson and Abe Lowder. Herbert is survived by Mary his loving wife of 69 years, four boys and a daughter: Gaylon and wife Marilyn of Austin, Gary and wife Terri of Grand Prairie, Sam and wife Sue of Missoula, Montana, Tony and wife Margie of Tyler and Kittye and husband Larry of Colorado springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren: Rebecca, Michael, Graham, Jay, Steven, Mike, Luke, Jake, Carolyn, Ryne, Landry and Lance. He also had five great-grandchildren: Mac, Grace, Jane, Sean, and Joseph, and one brother Wayne Boyd and wife, Joyce, of Tyler. Services will be held Saturday 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Lorenzo. Burial will follow in the Idalou Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
