Goodwin was born June 12, 1931 in Spur, Texas to Bob Corbett and Winnie Hale. He was the longest living person with the disabling disease Arthrogryposis where he was told he would never walk, drive, or care for himself and he defied the odds. Goodwin wrote an autobiography "Just a Krooked Kid" in 1994 detailing his life with Arthrogryposis. He graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1949.  After graduation, he held various jobs and ran for various political offices.  Goodwin then decided to become a Lawyer and went to Texas Tech University where he was accepted into the School of Law without yet completing his undergraduate degree. He then would take the Texas State Bar Exam and pass it before completing Law School in 1975.  He was a hardworking and dedicated Lawyer eventually creating his own practice, The Ticket Clinic, in Lubbock. He later retired and worked from his home in Crosbyton helping clients with estate planning. He married Jo Lawlis on January 1, 1980 in Rotan, Texas and became an instant father and grandfather. He and Jo had attended high school together in Hawley, Texas and reunited after 35 years. Goodwin was prominent member of the Crosbyton community where he helped charter the Crosbyton Federal Credit Union in 1965. He served as the Office Deputy for Crosby County, County Treasurer, and Youth Minister for Calvario Baptist Church. He was honored at the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Banquet as the 2015 "Citizen Through the Years".

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob "Jack" Hale Jr., and sisters Lorene Blagg, Jennie Lou Paschall, and Eva Nell Brister.
