Dorothy Jean Nelson, 72, of Lubbock passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 14, 2022. She was born May 28, 1949 in Corpus Christi to Frank and Georgia Hoople.

Dorothy was a proud 1967 graduate of Roosevelt High School. She was a member of Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Slaton. Dorothy had many hobbies like playing the piano, singing for her church, collecting knick-knacks, completing crossword and word search puzzles, and harvesting her crops on FarmTown. She loved her cats and watching movies. Most of all she loved spending time with her family going out to eat or reminiscing about growing up on the farm. Dorothy was an outgoing, independent woman that will be greatly missed by her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Lawrence Nelson of Lubbock and Charles Nelson and wife Jenny of Slaton; one daughter, Georgia Howard of Lubbock; one sister, Sally Arnold of Waymart, PA; and three grandchildren, Colby and Carly Nelson and Brayden Howard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Lee Nelson and one brother, Edwin Hoople.
