Obituary

Carl "DeWayne" Barcheers, 54, of Abernathy, passed away quietly into Jesus' arms Saturday, July 20, 2024 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family, at his home in Abernathy. DeWayne was born to Clifford & Annette Barcheers on January 18, 1970, in Hale Center, Texas. He attended school in Littlefield and Abernathy, having earned his GED in 1989. He married childhood sweetheart, Lotricia Ann Kelsey, August 26, 1989, in Acuff, Texas. They were looking forward to celebrating 35 years of marriage in a few short weeks! The pair made their home in Abernathy. Shortly after, a son, Jaryn DeWayne Barcheers was born, having completed their small, but mighty family!

Dewayne was big in presence and had a laugh that was even bigger!! He loved anything with speed, including riding dirt bikes (he could ride a wheelie, for many a city block). He also loved Top Fuel Drag Racing. John Force was his idol and he got to go to Ennis to the big races, several times! He also loved Tom Brady. DeWayne finally got to go to on a trip of a lifetime to Foxboro in New England to see him play his last year as a Patriot in December 2019. He had a love for good music in many different genres and was a great grill/smoke master. He and his wife found camping later in life, but enjoyed going many places in their home away from home with their fur babies. He always jokingly asked his wife, "which direction do I need to point the truck and camper", on their weekend journeys. He also recently found a love for fishing in his Skeeter at many lakes, but he loved Lake Stamford most. DeWayne and his father-in-law, Ray, had many a fishing ribbing on who could out fish the other or who caught the biggest one! Dewayne had a strong faith and made the decision to rededicate his life to the Lord on June 6, 2024 by his two best friends, Keith and Doug  alongside his lifelong pastor, Joel Perez at the Northside Baptist Church of Abernathy. His family and friends were there to witness his decision of faith.
He was employed for 18 years, with IdeaCom of Amarillo, as the Lubbock office Branch Manager.
Those left behind to cherish his memory, are his wife, Lotricia, son, Jaryn (Alyssa), grandsons, Jason & Jordan of New Braunfels, Texas. Three brothers, Don Barcheers and wife, Tonya of New Deal, Eugene Barcheers and Wade Barcheers of Abernathy, parents in law, Ray and Linda Beshirs of Lake Stamford, brother in law Dee Kelsey and wife, Tammy of Abilene, also a large extended family! He also leaves behind special friends who were more like family, The Corbin's and the Morrow's, (the trio lovingly nicknamed The Morbincheers). DeWayne also leaves behind the fur babies, Hailey, Candi and Cutter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robbie Lee Barcheers.
Also, a very special thank you to his in-laws, Ray & Linda Beshirs, who dropped everything to come help these last few months.

We couldn't have done this without our UMC Hospice Nurse Katelyn & Social Worker Brittany. Also a big thank you to our IdeaCom family, who loved DeWayne like their own! Thank you to our friends and family who have loved on us with food and visits during this difficult journey.
