Obituary

Dempsey Wagnon Sims, Jr., 90, of East Afton, Texas, passed from this life on August 4, 2015 after battling a series of illnesses. Dempsey was born in Afton on February 23rd, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Dickens County. Active in local civic affairs, Dempsey was a County Election Judge for over 40 years. He also served as an Officer with the Afton Cemetery Association for over 40 years. Dempsey, a Veteran, served his country during WWII. A farmer and a rancher by occupation, Dempsey enjoyed raising crops, cattle and dogs. He loved the company of others, and was always ready to help a neighbor or friend when he could.
Dempsey is preceded in death by his parents Dempsey Sims, Sr. and Emma Jenny Sims. He is survived by his brother Bud Sims and wife Jo Ella of Harrah, OK; two nephews; Brett Sims and wife Louise of East Afton, Texas; Mike Sims of Springfield, VA; two great nephews; Aaron Sims and wife Jessica of Weatherford, TX; Brandon Sims and wife Yvonne of Nashville, TN; two great-great nephews Jack and Luke Sims of Weatherford, TX; and a great-great niece; Ellison Brooke Sims of Nashville, TN.
Visitation will be held Friday August 7, 2015 from 4pm to 6pm at Adams Funeral Home, 622 W. Aspen, in Crosbyton, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at Afton Cemetery on Saturday August 8, 2015 at 10am under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, with Mr. Ben Kautz officiating.
