Obituary

David Anderson Prewitt, 80, of Ralls passed away April 2, 2022. He was born March 19, 1942, in Lubbock, TX to J.B. and Katherine Johnston Prewitt.

David was involved in Boy Scouts as a youth, earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and later served as scoutmaster. He was a 1960 graduate of Ralls High School.  Drawn to agriculture, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business from Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and made the Dean's List.

It was a sign in a small West Texas café that read "Lead, follow, or get out of the way" that led him to contribute time to public service.  He subsequently ran for school board where he served for many years including several in the capacity as president. He served as mayor of Ralls from 1988 to 2002. He served on the state insurance board, Texas Municipal League, and the White River Municipal Water District.

Personally, he was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and American Bucking Bull, Inc. where he won several accolades.

David is survived by his wife Sherry; one son, Greg Prewitt and wife Eva of Pleasanton, CA; one daughter, Paige Prewitt of Lubbock; two stepsons, Michael and Mark Willett; one sister, Joanne Gray and husband Steve of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Preston David Prewitt and Hayden Michael Willett; the mother of his children, Paula Switzer; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judith Kay Tomlin.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls. A memorial service will be announced and held later.

In honor of David's prior public service and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ralls EMS, 800 Ave. I, Ralls, TX 79357.
