Dr. David Lee Ivy, M.D. passed away peacefully at his home on December 20, 2018 at the age of 72 in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. Dr. Ivy was born in Lubbock at St. Mary's Hospital on August 25, 1946 to Dr. Roy Ivy and Mildred Edith Clinton Ivy. He graduated Valedictorian from Crosbyton High School in 1964 and attended Texas Tech University. He graduated from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas followed by an internship at Parkland Memorial, then completed his residency, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor Hospital, also in Dallas.
Dr. Ivy opened his medical practice in Lubbock in 1978 and over the next 27 years delivered thousands of babies into the world and tended to his patients and loved ones with the utmost care. He was held in high regard by his patients and his peers alike and was greeted almost everywhere he went by former patients who hugged and thanked him for the care he had given them. He thoroughly enjoyed playing golf and was an avid hunter and reader. Dr. Ivy had been a member of Covenant Medical Group, Lakeridge United Methodist Church and Lubbock Country Club. He was baptized as a young boy at First Baptist Church Crosbyton. Dr. Ivy was one of a kind, a devoted father, a true friend, extremely generous, always giving of himself to others, and never afraid to express his opinion.
Dr. Ivy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Clint and wife Lana of Austin and three grandchildren, Madelyn, Charlie and Kate Ivy; two sisters, Ann Apple and husband Don of Lubbock and Mary Baccus and husband Bruce of Horseshoe Bay, nephews Dan Apple and wife Sarah, and Brian Baccus; niece Rebecca Baccus and great niece Hope Apple
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thank you to all of Dr. Ivy's caregivers who took wonderful care of him over the last 2 years.
A family graveside service was held in Ralls Cemetery on December 26th, officiated by Reverend Calvin Gray under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.
