David Wayne Edwards, 78, of Lubbock, passed away January 27, 2023. He was born June 8, 1944, in Lorenzo, TX to Charlie and Edna Edwards. He graduated from Ralls High School in Texas.
David served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966 where he earned the Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning to Ralls, David married Barbara Jane Jones on July 6, 1968. David was a truck driver for most of his life working for a multitude of companies from Ralls to Houston to Midland, Texas. And he took great pride in being a leader for the Boy Scouts of Midland, Texas, having fun teaching practical life skills and helping young boys to earn their badges. But there was no greater pride than when he became a father to his own son, Jimmy.
David was a faithful servant of the Lord and member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Midland, TX where he served as Deacon and Broadview Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX. He enjoyed working on the bus ministry and was known for his prayer knot blankets he sewed for members of the church. David has also always been an avid supporter and volunteer of Special Olympics, supporting and cheering on his son and friends at Special Olympics events.
David is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, Charlie and Edna Edwards, two brothers, Stanley Edwards and Jess Edwards, and one sister, Sue Post. He is survived by his son Jimmy of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by his siblings: Lois Gandy of Lubbock, Arvil Edwards of Stephenville, Cecil Edwards of Odessa, Troy Edwards of Shallowater, and John Edwards of Stephenville as well as his beloved nieces/nephews & great nieces/nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of David's life will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 3, 2023, at Broadview Baptist Church, 1302 N Frankford Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79416 with Dr. David Rhoades officiating.
