Dale Joseph
Wimmer
Sep 4, 1952 — Nov 8, 2024
Crosbyton
Dale Joseph Wimmer passed away on November 8, 2024 in Crosbyton, TX. He was born September 4, 1952 in Slaton, TX at Mercy Hospital to A.A. "Bus" and Valeria Marie Wimmer. He was the 3rd of 6 children. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic school and was a graduate of Cooper Rural High School and Texas Tech University.
He was blessed with two children, Tyler Ross of Wichita, KS and Kelsey Alycia of Breckenridge, TX. He married his wonderful wife, Belinda Kay on November 30, 1991 and welcomed two children, Robert Keith of Denver, CO and Kristen Leigh of Lubbock, TX. He and Belinda were married for 32 years and share 7 beautiful grandchildren: Devyn (13), Deacon (9), Campbell (10), Calvin (7), Levi (5), Grace (8) and Nora (2).
Dale was the epitome of a hard worker as evidenced by all of his innovative and impressive accomplishments over the 40 plus years he spent in the seed industry. He spent 4 months in Indonesia in the 1980's where he oversaw the building of a seed corn production plant which was the first introduction of hybrid corn on the island of Java. Over his career, he was integral in the planning, management and production of different variants of sorghum seed and also used new strategies to combat threats to quality seed production. He was a long time member of the Texas Seed Trade Association and served as the president in 2011. A large focal point of the Association is raising funds for its scholarship programs to help support students which was very important to him. He spent decades building relationships and connections with so many of the area farmers and others in the industry. It never failed that any outing in the area meant stopping to chat with someone he just happened to run into to catch up.He was a huge Texas Tech sports fanatic, an avid fisherman, talented woodworker and enjoyed dancing in his younger years. In his later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren: taking trips together, watching their events and being up for any activity they dreamed up.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bus and Valeria Wimmer, brothers Gary Wimmer and Jay Wimmer, sister Corlis Pate and nephew Russell "Lee" Oliver. He is survived by his wife Belinda, sons Tyler Wimmer and Rob Ellison (wife, Karen Koto), daughters Kelsey Cornwall (husband, Jacob Cornwall) and Kristen Norris (husband, Matt Norris) and seven grandchildren.
Over the last decade, he battled the progressive degeneration of his cognitive brain function and was later diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration in order to help others in the fight against this terrible disease. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at 2:00 p.m. on November 23rd, 2024 at First Methodist Church of Crosbyton, 416 W. Main St. with a gathering afterwards in Latta Hall.
