Cora Mae Simpson, 85, of Crosbyton, Texas, died peacefully on November 25, 2015 at her home outside of Crosbyton, Texas. Cora Mae was born on October 7, 1930 in Idalou, Texas, the daughter of Reverend F.E. and Lillie Leona Willard Suttle. She graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1948 and attended nursing school. Cora Mae joined First Baptist Church of Crosbyton in 1939, and prior to her death, was that church's oldest surviving member. She married Billy "Cigar" Simpson in 1951. They were happily married for 64 years.
Cora Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Carol Suttle, F.E. Suttle and Howard Suttle, and her sisters Francis Pettijohn, Zeffa Robinett and Geraldine Smith. Cora Mae is survived by her husband Billy, her daughter Donna Arnold and husband Randy of Crosbyton, Texas, and her son Joe Simpson and wife M'Lou of Lubbock, Texas; her grandchildren Ricci Gomez and husband Adrian of Dallas, Texas, Staci Myatt and husband Scott of Dallas, Texas, Jeff Graham and wife Tonya of O'Donnell, Texas, Reid Arnold and wife Betsy of Spur, Texas, Amy Simpson of Dallas, Texas, Rusty Simpson and wife Nicole of Houston, Texas, and Michael Simpson of Lubbock, Texas; and great grandchildren Brandon, Blake and Emily Allen, Sebastian Gomez, Wesley and Will Myatt, Lincoln and London Graham, and Bryn and Gavin Arnold.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Crosbyton, 300 W. Birch Street, Crosbyton, Texas 79322. Visitation will be held at the church immediately following the service. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crosby County Senior Citizens Center, at 119 N. Berkshire Avenue, Crosbyton, Texas 79322.
