Cora Inez Hill McGaugh was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on June 4, 1920 to John Hill and Mattie Sneed Hill. Her family moved back to Texas shortly after Cora's birth. She spent most of her youth in Plainview, Texas where she attended school. On November 27, 1937, she married Melvin McGaugh in Stephenville, Texas.

Melvin and Cora moved to Ralls in 1945 where they raised their children. She was an active member of the Emma Church of Christ in Ralls, and rarely missed a service in over 60 years. She moved to Amarillo in 2008 to be near her daughters. Her faith and family directed her life.

Cora is survived by two daughters, Linda Shelby and Barbara Grogan and husband Gary, both of Amarillo; one son, Houston McGaugh and wife Anne of College Station, TX; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Melvin, who died on December 10, 2001, after 64 years of marriage. Also preceding Cora were her parents; her brothers, Neal Hill, Homer Hill, and Ira Hill; and her sister, Ruby Bonds.
