Ralls
Cheryl Hannabas Sellers, 72, peacefully passed away on October 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 23, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, to her parents, Truett Hannabas and Patsy Boyd Hannabas. Cheryl's educational journey led her to graduate from Monterey High School in 1969. It was during her time at Texas Tech University where she met the love of her life, Aunie Sellers. Their connection blossomed, leading to a cherished marriage in November of 1973, and they made Ralls their lifelong home.
Cheryl, a devoted member of the Ralls Methodist Church, dedicated many years to the congregation, serving as the Sunday School Director. Her unwavering commitment extended beyond the church walls as she took an active leadership role in the Ralls Booster Club for several years. Cheryl's culinary talents were celebrated far and wide, as she spent countless hours crafting homemade chili that became legendary among visiting teams at the concession stands. In fact, her cooking abilities had been recognized early on when she won the Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest during her senior year in high school with her chocolate-chocolate chip cookie recipe.
In addition to her church and community involvement, Cheryl selflessly contributed her time to numerous Walks and Chrysalis events, and she served on the board for the Llano Estacado Emmaus Community. Those who were fortunate to know Cheryl were touched by her profound faith and boundless love, which she extended without condition to all who crossed her path. Her infectious spirit also included a penchant for lighthearted pranks and a knack for finding laughter in any situation.
Cheryl cherished large gatherings, and nothing brought her greater joy than having her extended family gathered together. Even during her lengthy hospital stay, she continued to exhibit her warm and welcoming nature, forming enduring friendships with every nurse and support staff member who entered her room.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Sellers, her parents, Truett and Patsy Hannabas, and a brother, Gregory Hannabas.
Survivors are her husband Aunie Sellers of Ralls, two sons, Brian Sellers and wife, Staci, of New Home, Texas; Derek Sellers and wife, Whitney, of Aledo, Texas; and two daughters, Allison Garrett and husband, Kevin, of Lubbock, Texas and Emily Birdwell and husband, Garrett, of Snyder, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren Zackery Sellers, Beau Garrett, Quade Sellers, Tenley Garrett, Sloane Birdwell, Dylan Garrett, Gunner Garrett, Graham Birdwell, and Layt Birdwell. Her brothers are Don Hannabas, and wife, Linley of Lufkin, Texas and Byron Hannabas, and wife Beth, of Plainview, Texas. Also surviving is a dear cousin turned sister-in-law, Vicki Sellers and husband Kent of Ralls, Texas.
Memorial services are 4 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Ralls Methodist Church in Ralls with Larry Bass officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ralls Methodist Church, PO Box 447, Ralls, Texas 79357.
