Obituary

Benny Vern Straw was born December 26, 1947, in Dallas, TX to Ivan and Lorene Stidham Straw. He passed from this life on Friday, August 18, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He joined and proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps after graduating High school in California. He worked for the City of Dallas Water Utilities for several years until his retirement. He was also a journeyman electrician and owned/operated Straw Electric. While living in Dallas, he also worked at Mesquite Rodeo.Benny grew up in the Dallas area but had lived in Ralls for many years. He served on the Ralls Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He also went to Fire Academy School where he became a certified fire fighter and instructor.

Benny was a giving and kindhearted man that never met a stranger. He was all about family and was a wonderful and proud dad, grandpa, uncle, and brother. The most selfless and intelligent man who could figure out anything, or never give up trying to. Always putting others first and to be thankful for what you have and how important it is to make memories in everything you do. His love was unconditional. He enjoyed going fishing with the family, flying airplanes on his computer. He also enjoyed fixing anything broken. He loved singing, and doing karaoke with his grandchildren. Everyone loved his humor. Benny was a little league coach for baseball and mentor for many. He was a preacher at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. He was also a karate instructor. He liked to dance. Benny would wake the kids up with pancakes for breakfast every Saturday morning. He loved watching martial arts movies starring Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, and David Carradine. Watching wrestling and taking his kids to wrestling matches on Saturday morning was one of our favorite past-times.

He is survived by three daughters, Angie Hernandez and husband "Porky" of Rockwall, TX, Crystal Hair of Ralls, and Lori Faber of Crosbyton; one step-son, Jason Holt of Childress, TX; his step-mother, Beth Straw; numerous brothers and sisters; thirteen grandchildren, Andrew Hernandez, Arynn Hernandez and fiance Anthony, Dominique Ashcraft, Demitrius Gutierrez and fiance Taylor, Cainyn and Christian Hair, Nicholas Faber, Ashlyne Clark and husband Randy, Jonathan Faber, Elizabeth Faber, and Alex, Payton and Kyndall Holt; and nine great-grandchildren, Riggen, Addie, Holden, Emma, Bella, Baby Matt, Jaxonn, Mason and Dean.
