Albert Wayne
Sechrist
Jan 27, 1937 — Apr 3, 2023
Lubbock
Albert Wayne Sechrist passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2023 due to complications after heart surgery even though he had been recovering well all week. Albert was born January 27, 1937 in Crosby County to Aaron and Mary Mildred Sechrist. He was the oldest of eight siblings enjoying being raised in the cotton fields. After graduating from Lorenzo High School, he attended Texas Tech University earning a Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering. He served his country well in the Army during the Vietnam War. He married Susan Elizabeth Herold of Bellaire, Texas in 1964. They were married 58 years and had five children. Albert especially enjoyed spending time with his family, most recently last summer on a memorable trip to Lake Tahoe with all the children and many of their families. He valued extended family, prioritizing "First Sunday" gatherings every month with his siblings and their families. He also loved serving at his church, First Christian, where he was a deacon, served communion and collected the offering almost every Sunday. He made others feel valued and welcomed them warmly whether they were long-time members or first-time visitors.
Albert is survived by so much loving family: his wife Susan Sechrist of Lubbock; daughter Julie Goodloe of Lubbock; sons Calvin and wife Dawndra of Lubbock, Tim and wife Jori of Abilene, Philip and wife Heather of Sugar Land, Korey and partner Michael of Friendswood; grandchildren Curran McAlister and wife Morgan of Levelland; Brice and wife Katie of Lakewood, Colorado; Luke Goodloe of Lubbock; Tatum Sechrist of Lubbock; Britton and Addy Sechrist of Abilene; and three great-grandchildren June and Hayes McAlister of Levelland; and Stetson of Lakewood, Colorado; siblings Alva Arp, Robert and wife Judy, Alvin, Mary, Camellia, and Gary and wife Vivian.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilton, of Lorenzo.
Please join the family as we grieve together and celebrate his joyful and full life at his service on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church at 2323 Broadway St. Lubbock, TX 79401. A reception will follow in the church's Kuykendall Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Christian Church of Lubbock memorial fund fcclubbock.org/give or the South Plains Genealogical Society of Lubbock, P.O. Box 6607, Lubbock, TX 79493 or www.spgstx.org .
